Purpose 1

Day after day I execute the tasks and responsibilities that have been entrusted to me by my employer and friend, Bao. I wonder if it has any meaning. My official title is Chief Boring Officer. I do what he finds boring, like managing the bookkeepers, taxes, payroll, caring for the office, events, cap table, and random tasks that pop up. I enjoy doing these things, although not as intellectually challenging as previous jobs, I do take pride in it. Nevertheless, the question of meaning remains?

The other question that lingers in my mind, as well as most people who reflect on the passage of time and one’s life is “what is the purpose of this?”. Certainly, there is one? Or is it that we come to this world randomly and act accordingly, without any consequence to our moral worth because there isn’t any? Is there any difference between meaning and purpose?

My faith in the Abrahamic God, the one proclaimed by the One Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, is that we are created in God’s image and likeness, and that our purpose is to find ourselves with him in the afterlife. But what does this mean for me, for us, in the current life we are living?

When I act upon the world, I do so from the perspective of that of a builder. The actions are take are oriented towards an end goal. What am I building? I’m building a stair, towards the after life. Every day is a new opportunity to do a good deed, but it’s also one step closer to your end on this earth.
